Biography
Having spent twenty plus years as an amateur fine art photographer, in 1998 I decided to leave my career of fifteen years in the Financial Planning and Investment industry to pursue a profession in the field of Photography. With a strong self taught knowledge base, I completed the rigorous Program at the Hallmark Institute of Photography. I began exhibiting my fine art work in 2000, and currently work full-time as a Fine Art Photographer. I continue my studies in fine art and photography through coursework and specialized workshops and seminars. My focus is on preserving and practicing the old photographic processes. My work is exhibited at Fine Art shows throughout the Eastern and Central United States.
Artist Statement
Photography as a medium is unique in that it offers creative expression always within the confines of reality. It is this challenge that I find so appealing in photography as an art form; the ability to harness technology, both old and new, to create a thing of beauty and timelessness. Over time, my focus as an artist has shifted from photographing beautiful subjects and places to creating beautiful subjects to photograph. I strive to present my subject matter in a unique fashion, and through them to evoke emotion in their viewer. I currently work exclusively in black and white, and I hand color my images for complete artistic expression.
Process
Hand Colored photographs are created by first capturing the image on black and white negative film. The image is hand printed on black and white fiber based paper and processed to archival standards. The black and white print is then colored by hand using oils. Each image is produced in limited quantities; each print is signed and numbered in archival ink. The finished image is mounted and matted using archival materials.
